He was born August 14, 1942, in Beloit, Wisconsin, the son of Gerald Keith and Bertha (Eickstaedt) Oliver. He graduated from Beloit Memorial High School in 1960 and from the University of Wisconsin-Madison with a degree in electrical engineering. He was employed by Newport News Shipbuilding, Warner Electric, Electro Cam Corp., Dairy Equipment Co., Beloit Corp., and Woodward, Inc. He also performed consulting services for Moisture Detection, Inc. and various others. Bill married Deborah Snygg on September 25, 1993, in Rockton, IL.
During his lifetime, Bill was owned by 16 dogs. Bill thought that if there were no dogs in heaven, it would be hell. Bill liked most dogs more than he liked most people.
He is survived by his beloved wife, Deb Oliver of Rockton; 3 daughters Colleen (Gary) Wright of Rockford, Melanie Houseman of Pecatonica, and Katie (Todd) Alderman of Rockton; 2 stepdaughters Andrea (Dan) Enderle of Rockton, and Kari (Chris) Gates of Cedar Rapids, Iowa; 15 grandchildren and great-grandchildren; and best friends Lucy, Ollie, Benji, Rosie, and Amora. He is predeceased by his parents; and best friends Charlie, Jaxson, Fritz, Maggie, Freddy, Tiffany, Muffin, Heidi, Puffy, Cissy, Butch, Triscut, Toby, and extra special friend Cookie.
At Bill’s request, he was cremated. There will be no service but rather a gathering of friends and family at his former home in Rockton to celebrate his life and eat. No flowers please, instead make memorials to PAWS of Rockford or to the UW-Madison Veterinary School.
