Valerie Ann Orlando, 71, of Rockford, passed away on July 1, 2026, at Javon Bea Hospital. She was born March 6, 1955, in Rockford, the daughter of Donald and Maxine (Wallin) Powers. Valerie graduated from Jefferson High School in 1974. Throughout her working years, she was employed at Haldex Barnes Hydraulics and Fenner Elvia Power/SPX as an assembly line worker, Heritage Credit Union as a teller, and Walmart as a cashier. She took pride in her work and the friendships she made along the way.
Above all else, Valerie treasured time spent with her family. She enjoyed working word searches, crocheting, and attending country music concerts. One of her most cherished memories was taking a cruise to the Bahamas with her dear friend, Buddy Parr. The joy she found in life's simple pleasures and the love she shared with those closest to her will be remembered always.
Valerie is survived by her children Christina (Caleb) Gray of Pecatonica, Donald (Xena) Martinez of Rockford; grandchildren Alexis, Arianna (Thomas), Connor, Avarie, Victoria, Natalia, and Apollo; great-grandchildren Josiah, Triston Jr., Ahliyah, and Thomas Jr.; brother Calvin Powers; and sister Shawna (Matt) Irwin. She is predeceased by her parents Donald and Maxine Powers; sisters Sheila and Sharon Martinez.
