Tommy Cole, 93, passed away peacefully at home on July 7, 2026.
Born on October 13, 1932, in Tellico Plains, Tennessee, Tommy lived a life defined by hard work, integrity, and devotion to those he loved. Throughout his career, he dedicated himself to skilled trades, working as a pattern maker, master machinist, and superintendent. Known by many as a true "jack of all trades," there was very little Tommy couldn't build, repair, or figure out. He took great pride in his craftsmanship and the work of his hands.
Tommy shared 36 wonderful years of marriage with his beloved wife, Marilyn (Ries) Cole, who preceded him in death. Their years together were filled with love, laughter, and a family they cherished.
Outside of work, Tommy loved the simple pleasures in life. He especially enjoyed riding his scooter and could often be found out and about, visiting with friends or simply enjoying the day. He treasured the friendships he made throughout his life, especially with his best friend, Rick Sherron, and his dear friends Peggy Keith and Donnie Keene. Along with many lifelong friends in Tennessee and Kentucky.
He is survived by his daughters, Tammy Cole and Cindy (Cole) Sturm; his grandsons, Jason (Michelle) Sturm and Jerome A. (Abagail) Sturm; his beloved great-grandchildren, Eleanor Sturm, Ethan Smith, and Kiera Smith; and many cherished nieces and nephews who will remember him fondly.
Tommy was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Marilyn (Ries) Cole; his son, Michael Thomas Cole; his parents Thomas Fred Cole and Lois Kelso Cole; his brothers, William Cole, Harvel Cole, Richard Cole, Samuel Cole, Floyd Cole, and Paul Cole; and his sisters, Elizabeth Cole Strickland, Gladys Cole Harris, Imogene Cole Evans, Ernestine Cole Radford, and Pauline Cole Watson Alexander.
Tommy will be remembered for his strong work ethic, generous heart, stubborn determination, and unforgettable sense of humor. He always had a quick wit and a sarcastic remark ready, bringing laughter to those around him with his sharp sense of humor and playful personality. Whether working with his hands, sharing stories, or spending time with those he loved, Tommy left a lasting impression on everyone who had the privilege of knowing him.
Tommy's greatest pride and joy in life was his great-granddaughter, Eleanor Rose. She brought a light into his world unlike any other, and her laughter was one of his favorite sounds. His family finds comfort in knowing that his final moments were filled with love, peace, and the sweet sound of the little girl who held his heart.
His legacy lives on through the family he loved so dearly and the countless lives he touched over his 93 years.
