Thomas Dewitt

December 31, 1969 — December 15, 2022

Thomas Phillip DeWitt, 73, died peacefully at home surrounded by his family on Wednesday, November 23, 2022, in Cherry Valley, Illinois. Thomas, also known as “Thomas P”, was born June 16, 1949, to Lois Bauerfind and David H. DeWitt in Rockford. Thomas graduated from West High School. He then went on to join the United States Marines, where he served 2 years and was stationed in Guam. On June 3, 1972, Thomas married the love of his life, Deborah Lyne Elizondo.
Tom began his career at Barber Coleman where he was a Class A Machinist and supervisor for 40 years. He also worked at Bourn and Kouch where he was a supervisor. He worked there until he retired in 2016. Tom was a good father, husband, and grandfather. He was a very loving and caring person. He would always help anyone that needed help. Tom liked to cut firewood with his twin grandsons to heat our home. He also enjoyed tubing down the river with friends and family, as well as fishing and hunting. When Tom would get the opportunity, he liked to take Deb out in the Corvette for a long ride, and enjoy the scenery. Tom was always available to help assist any one in need. He acquired many skills throughout the years which gave him the opportunity to share his handyman talents. Tom loved and enjoyed his time playing with our special dogs, and especially Peanut kept him busy. We will miss his sense of humor and his jokes he used to tell all the time, which provided his family and friends with several good memories. He is survived by his wife of 50 years, Debbie; children, David Anthony (Melody) DeWitt, Angela DeWitt, and Shannon DeWitt; 12 grandchildren; 6 great-grandchildren.
A Celebration of Life for Tom will be announced at a later date. Stateline Cremations is assisting the family, 712 Windsor Road, Loves Park, IL 61111.
