Steve Box, 64, of Rockford, Illinois, passed away suddenly on January 10, 2022, in his home. Steve was born on December 19, 1957, to Viola (Holliman) and Willie Lee Box in Rockford, Illinois. Steve attended Jefferson High School of Rockford. Steve was known to his friends as “The Wizard”. He was a self-taught guitar player and in his earlier years, and especially loved playing his guitar during praise and worship service in church. Back in the day, he was also a “pretty good” basketball player. Steve enjoyed spending time with his family and liked to talk about “the good old days”. One of his favorite foods was a double beef Whopper with cheese, and Steve would say, “and make it two”. Sometimes for breakfast (actually, anytime) he loved to eat cold rice with butter, which was his first favorite food. Steve will be missed by all.
Steve is survived by his 3 sisters, Barbara Box-Gill, Marilyn Box-Lenderman, and Judy (Daniel) Box-Brown; one brother, Bruce Box; numerous nieces, nephews, relatives, and friends. Steve was preceded in death by his mother and father; one sister, Vera Box-Howard; four brothers, Willie, Ricky, David, and Eddie.
A celebration of life for Steve will be planned for a later date. Thank you to our entire family for their support, and a special thanks to family friend, Joe, and cousin, Robert. Stateline Cremations is assisting the family, 712 Windsor Road, Loves Park, Illinois, 61111. Statelinecremations.com
