With heavy hearts, we announce the passing of Stacy Lynn Parker, a beloved wife, mother, nana, daughter, sister, and friend. Stacy passed away peacefully at home, on Wednesday, February 12th, surrounded by love, after a courageous year-long battle with kidney cancer. Cancer did not define Stacy, nor did she lose her battle—she faced it with strength, grace, and unwavering love. She lived on her own terms, never letting illness take away her fire, her kindness, or the immense love she gave to those around her. In the end, cancer did not win—love did.
She was 54 years old. Born on June 5, 1970, to Larry and Judy (Cook) Gilgan, Stacy grew up in Rockford, Illinois, and graduated from West High School in 1988. She was a long-time waitress at the Maid-Rite on Auburn St. As a teenager, she enjoyed skating at SkateCo with her sister and friends.
She found the love of her life, Gary Parker, in 1992, and married him on December 29th, 1995. Together they built a beautiful life filled with love, laughter, and cherished memories. They enjoyed tubing down the Kishwaukee river and playing cards for fun. They shared nearly 33 wonderful years together.
Stacy was a devoted mother to her two daughters, Kayla and Kelsey, who were the center of her world. She took immense joy in being a Nana to her grandsons, Connor, Jayson, Landyn, and Asher, and was deeply involved in their lives, always showing up for them in more ways than one.
Anyone who knew Stacy knew she had a fiery spirit and a heart of gold. She was strong, independent, and full of life, yet the kindest, most selfless person you could meet. She would give the shirt off her back to someone in need and always made those around her feel loved and cared for. Her home was a place of warmth and laughter, and she had a deep love for her dogs, Rocky and Macey, who were always by her side.
While our hearts are heavy with loss, we find comfort in knowing that she has been reunited with her father, Larry Gilgan, whom she lost at just 10 years old. After so many years apart, we take peace in the thought of their joyous reunion.
Stacy is survived by her husband, Gary Parker; her loving daughters, Kayla Carpenter and Kelsey Parker; her beloved grandsons, Connor, Jayson, Landyn, and Asher; her mother, Judy Gilgan; her sister and best friend, Tami (Steve) Gilgan; her brothers Don and Steve Gilgan; special cousins, Brad (Vicky) Cook; many nieces and nephews and dear friends who will forever hold her memory close. Stacy was preceded in death by her father, Larry Gilgan and sister-in-law, Cindy Gilgan.
A celebration of Stacy's life will be held on Sunday, March 9th, from 1-4, at the American Legion, 1011 S. Alpine Rd, Rockford, IL, 61108.
In honor of her kindness and generosity, the family encourages you to cherish your loved ones, share a laugh, and embrace life with the same passion and love that Stacy did every day.
The family would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to Stacy's hospice nurse for their kindness, compassion, and the exceptional care they provided. Their support brought great comfort to Stacy and her loved ones during her final days, and for that, we are forever grateful.
