Shirley R. Moore, 92, formerly of Sycamore, died Wednesday, August 20, 2025. She was born May 30,1933, in Green Island, Iowa, to Albert and Ruth (Ottaway) Worden.
Shirley moved to Sycamore and graduated from Sycamore High School on June 8, 1950. She married Thomas "Jake" Moore on October 16, 1954, in St. Mary Catholic Church in Sycamore. She worked as a secretary for Tom Moore Construction for 20 years, retiring in 1995.
Friends and family remember Shirley for her kindness, sense of humor, and dedication to her church. Her laughter and lightheartedness will be remembered by everyone who knew her. She was an avid reader and loved studying the Bible. Over the years she wrote many notes of encouragement to family and friends. Shirley was a woman of faith. She loved God and her actions showed it.
Shirley is survived by her son, Thomas Moore Jr. of Rockford, daughters Kim (Joseph) Whitchurch of Lafayette, IN and Tandy Moore of Schaumburg; grandchildren Jim and Amy Whitchurch of Lafayette, IN, Derek and Cheyenne Steward of Jonesboro, Arkansas; great-grandchildren, James, Hunter, Jaxxon, Marlee, Layla, and Phoenix Whitchurch of Lafayette; brother, John (Glory) Worden of Sun City West, AZ; sisters, Norma Wienecke of West Chicago and Ann Bolinger of Murray, KY. and several nieces and nephews. She is predeceased by her parents Albert and Ruth Worden; and her husband Tom "Jake" Moore.
A Celebration of Life will be held at 10 AM, Wednesday, September 3, 2025 at Blumen Gardens, 403 Edwards St. Sycamore, IL 60178. In lieu of flowers the family requests donations be made to the American Heart Association, www.heart.org.
