Sara “Sally” A. Powers, 80, of Rockford died February 10, 2024, after a two-year battle with cancer. Sally was born on February 16, 1943, to Clinton and Margaret Swenson in Rockford, IL. She attended Bishop Muldoon High School, graduated in 1961 and continued her education at University of Iowa in Iowa City where she majored in education.
Sally is survived by her 4 children Will (Ambra) Powers of Oklahoma, John Powers of Rockford, Dan (Renee) Powers of Georgia, and Kate (Mike) Linhart of Rockford; sisters Mary (Richard) Gensler of Rochelle, Peggy (Larry) Nowicki of Wisconsin, and Ann O’Donnell of Rockford; grandchildren Hannah Linhart, Laney Linhart, Gunnar Linhart, Mikey Linhart of Rockford, Sara Grace (Sean) Healy of CA, Mallie Starr and Kennedy Starr of OK, Kason Powers, Alexis Powers, and Jaxon Powers of AZ; and great-grandchild Miles Healy. Predeceased by her parents; and brother Thomas Swenson in 2005.
Sally sold real estate for Will Moist Realtors for over 30 years, she loved helping families find their home. She also worked for Kohls in the jewelry department part time for over 15 years. Sally loved working in her gardens, reading books by the pool, and long walks on the beach in Florida, and most of all spending time with her family and friends.
The family will be hosting a Celebration of Life from 1 to 4 pm, Saturday, February 24, 2024, at the American Lombardi Society, 209 Olive St., Rockford, IL 61107. Stateline Cremations is assisting the family, 6204 Forest Hills Rd., Loves Park, IL 61111. www.statelinecremations.com
