Sandra Stevens

August 17, 1935 — April 15, 2024

Sandra Lea Stevens, age 88, of Rockford, Illinois passed away peacefully on Monday, April 15, 2024, surrounded by her family. She was born August 17, 1935, in Lexington, Kentucky to Marion Russell and Katherine Virginia Skinner. She attended the University of Kentucky before starting her career as a physical therapist. She spent her professional life working for a variety of organizations including Easter Seals, Walter Lawson Children’s Home, Belvidere school district and Swedish American Hospital. Sandra married her husband, Jerry Stevens in 1962 and spent 54 years with him until his passing in 2016. Together they raised three daughters, enjoyed time with their grandchildren and traveled often. Favorite destinations included Alaska, Austria, and China. Sandra enjoyed family history and spent many hours researching and working on genealogy. Completing crossword puzzles and cryptoquotes were also a favorite activity, as well as watching college basketball and rooting for her beloved Wildcats.

Sandra is survived by her daughters, Siobhan Stevens, Stacey Deal, and Susan Stevens: her grandchildren Savannah Stevens, Mason Hodowanic, and Owen Hodowanic: special friends Bill and Karen Sikorski, sister Patricia VanTriest, sister-in-laws Alma Jean Skinner and Judy Cormany, as well as many nieces, nephews and cousins. Preceded in death by her husband, her parents, her brother, and son-in-law, Brian Deal.

A celebration of life will take place at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the American Heart Association, Pancreatic Cancer Action Network or Serenity Hospice and Home.
