Russell Cochranle

December 31, 1969 — November 18, 2019

Russell F. Cochran, 92, of Rockford Illinois passed away peacefully November 18, 2019 with family members by his side.  Youngest son of Clarence Edgar and Ida Elizabeth (Ballard), he was born March 7 1927 in Smackover Arkansas. Russell spent the most of his young life in and near the Corning Arkansas area, moved to Rockford in the early 1960’s for work, and retired from National Lock. He married Jean Taylor April 10 1948. She preceded him in death July 31 2001. He then married Midge Anderson in February of 2009. She survives him in Rockford. ? He was a lifelong member of the Churches of Christ both in Arkansas and in Rockford. He was instrumental in the starting of the Joy Bus ministry in Rockford in the early 70’s at the former 20th Street Church of Christ. He was always proud of a plaque presented to him recognizing his many years of service to that ministry that named him, “Mr. Joy Bus”. He currently was a member of the Rockford Church of Christ.  While Russ and Jean were involved in Rockford Christian Camp for many years, in retirement, they would spend the summers at the camp as caretakers and he served on the Board of Directors as well. He loved his time at camp and especially enjoyed time spent with others around the campfire at night. He was famous for laughter, jokes and pulling pranks. Many still talk of the funeral he held for a groundhog one summer at the camp.  Preceded in death by his parents, brothers Shelby, Bink, D.L. and wife Jean children Russell “Benny” Cochran, Brenda Mabry, Son-in-Law Don Oliver along with Grandchildren Kim Mabry and Jason Oliver.  Survived by Daughters Becky Oliver and Sue Diaz, Son David, 14 Grandchildren and 15 Great Grand Children. A time to visit and share with the family will be held Monday December 9th at Eastside Church of Christ, 4:00-6:00 P.M. to be followed by a time for all to tell Russell stories as we celebrate his life.  Funeral Services with be at Eastside as well Tuesday the 10th at 11:00 a.m. We ask you to join us for a meal following in the church fellowship area.  In Lieu of flowers, please send donations to either Rockford Church of Christ 1141 20th Avenue Rockford Illinois 61108 or Rockford Christian Camp at P.O.
