Ruby Smith

December 31, 1969 — August 21, 2023

Ruby Mae (Moore) Smith, 89, of South Beloit, went peacefully to Jesus on August 15, 2023, at 12:14 pm.  Ruby was born on May 4, 1934, to Avery Otto and Dollie Mae (Jones) Moore in Pocahontas, Arkansas and then moved to Genoa, IL in 1962. In 1960 Ruby married Warren C. Parkins.  In 1963, she and Warren adopted Brenda Margaret Parkins. She was their only child. Ruby started working at the age of 13 picking cotton. After moving to Beloit, WI, she started working at Birds Eye Foods where she retired from in January of 2011. She was a member of the Good New Christian Center in Beloit. She loved her church family and pastor Clifford White and his wife Gloria. She loved crocheting and cooking. Ruby had a good caregiver named Sara Gustafson, who took care of her for about 3 years. She was loved by all her brothers and sisters. Ruby is survived by her only daughter Brenda Parkins (Nehls) of Beloit; 2 grandkids Robert J. Nehls of South Beloit, and Destiny (Willie) Nehls of Beloit; 5 great grandkids Alec, Domenik, Lillionna, Payton, and Piper; brothers John (Nancy) Moore of Orlando, FL and Kenneth (Shannon) Moore of Greenville, TN; several nieces and nephews; bonus children Kerri Contrereas, Amanda Foulker, Adrianna Foulker-Garcia that she took care of most of their lives.  She is predeceased by her parents, husband Clifford Smith, siblings Juanita, JD, Jackie, Donald, and Polly, Mary and Cathy, and great-granddaughter Neela Nehls. The family would like to extend a special thank you to the staff at ICU Critical Care at OSF St. Anthony Medical Center. A Memorial Service will be at 11 am, Saturday, September 2, 2023, at the Good News Christian Center, 2293 Prairie Avenue, Beloit, WI 53511, with a luncheon to follow.
