Ronald W. Maxey, 67, of Poplar Grove, passed away on November 29, 2024, in his home after a courageous battle with glioblastoma. He was born October 3, 1957, in Rockford, IL, the son of William “Bill” Ralph Maxey and Lois M. (Manon) Maxey. He married
Mary Leffelman on April 24, 1993, in Genoa, IL.
Ron was a mold maker and machinist for his entire working career, most recently for Armin Tool and Manufacturing. He was a lifelong member of the Forest City Riders Motorcycle Club serving as club president for many years and a member of the American Motorcycle Association. He was very active in his community as a member of the Poplar Grove United Methodist Church, a member of the Poplar Grove Lions Club serving as the president for three years, and the director of the North Boone Youth Baseball for many years; in addition, he was active in many roles with Cub Scouts Pack 126 and Boy Scout Troops 126 and 141. He enjoyed fishing, riding off-road on his motorcycle (especially enduro races) and spending time in his garden as he made pickles every fall and shared them with everyone.
His survivors include his wife Mary F. Maxey of 31 years; children Lisa (Craig Potts) Maxey of Seattle, Washington; Anna Jones of Coppell, Texas; Sara (Miguel Ramos) Maxey of Houston, Texas; Samuel Maxey of Plano, Texas; Benjamin Maxey of Poplar Grove, IL; and Thomas Maxey of Poplar Grove, IL; grandchildren Gwendolyn Potts of Seattle, Washington; Alexander Potts of Seattle, Washington; and Henry “Ike” Jones of Copell, Texas; siblings David Maxey of Rockford, IL; Audrey Maxey of Rockford, IL; Joanne Paske of Cherry Valley, IL; and James (Marsha) Maxey of Avon, Indiana; and nieces and nephews Juanita (Kevin) Ware, Theresa (Matthew) Staff, Matt (Cindy) Voss, Melvin (Shirley) Brodston, Leanne Maxey, Brent (Erin) Paske, and Danny (Brie) Paske. He is preceded in death by his parents.
The visitation will be held Sunday, December 8, 2024, from 2-6 pm at Poplar Grove United Methodist Church. The funeral will be the following day Monday, December 9, 2024, at 11 am also at Poplar Grove United Methodist Church with luncheon to follow. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the family to be split among several charities.
