Growing up in Oregon as a young boy, Ron spent a lot of time in his father’s automotive garage. His father was a noted harness racer, winning many a race in the region. Ron took after his father’s love of racing, but in a different fashion. Ron preferred racing cars, and became a successful drag racer, especially in the area of ‘Funny Cars.’ He even won the title of World Champion at the IHRA finals in 1974. Ron enjoyed politics and he cared deeply about Ogle County. He served the Community for many years as an Ogle County Board Member. A lover of music, in 2000 Ron began and hosted an open stage show in Oregon, Illinois called ‘First Fridays.’ Many musicians from all over the region have participated in this show. Even some known, local artists have graced the ‘First Fridays’ stage from time to time. The donations received at these ‘First Fridays’ shows were put to good use. Ron began a project to help beautify Oregon. He purchased and then began planting spruce trees along route 64, coming in from the east side. Some of these trees are quite large now. Along with his parents, Ron was predeceased by sister Judy and brother Dennis. He is survived by special friend Kathryn Stauffer.
Being the eternal optimist, Ron just loved life. He loved people and people loved Ron. He will be remembered fondly by all who knew him. Stateline Cremations is assisting the family, 712 Windsor Road, Loves Park, IL, 61111.
