Romualdo "Vic" Vasquez Jr., 78, of Rockford, IL, passed away surrounded by family, on September 30, 2025. He was born on May 12, 1947, to Alma Estrella Rivera, who later married Fernando Medina, who raised Vic as his own son.
Vic was a devoted family man who worked at Chrysler for 30 years, always making sure his loved ones were cared for. Though he faced struggles in life, he turned things around for his family, finding strength and joy in them. Even through illness, he never lost his sense of humor, always laughing and joking with those around him. He loved music and was an avid reader. He educated himself in history and other topics by reading.
A proud Chicago sports fan, from the Cubs to the Bulls, Vic also carried a deep love for his roots in Ohio, often enjoying visits back home to see family. His greatest pride and joy were his grandchildren and great-grandchildren, he happily picked them up from school, shared afternoon snacks, and filled their days with love. Family and friends knew his home was always open to them.
Vic will be remembered for his hard work, his loyalty, his generosity, and the way he went above and beyond for those he loved. His presence will be deeply missed, but his legacy will live on in the hearts of his family and all who knew him.
Vic is survived by his wife Lanaya Vasquez; his two daughters, Sonia Vasquez and Cynthia Vasquez; grandchildren, Trevon Walker, Debriana Walker, Tayleana Walker, Alejandro Medrano, Alysea Medrano, and Estrella Medrano; great-grandchildren, Ezekiel Walker, Elias Walker, Elenna Ervin, Ava Medrano, Aria Medrano, Angelo Medrano and Nyomi Stout; his siblings Alma Martinez (Bob) McIntosh, Hector (Sylvia) Medina, and Jorge (Annette) Medina; several nieces and nephews; his dog Boo.
Vic is predeceased by his grandmother Enriqueta "Mamiqueta" Soto, his parents, and his brothers Raul Medina, and Fernando Medina, Jr.
The family would like to extend a sincere thank you to family, friends, and AA for their care and support through the years.
