Roger Lee Swedberg, 74, of Dekalb, Illinois, passed peacefully into eternal life, at his home, on December 12, 2023, with his loving family at his side. He was of the Charismatic Christian Faith. Roger was born June 4, 1949, in Chicago, Illinois. He was adopted by Norman and Doris Swedberg of Sycamore, Illinois, at age 10.
In his adolescent years he was active in the Boy Scouts of America. He was a graduate of Sycamore High School, class of 1970. He enjoyed working at Browns County Market in Sycamore until choosing to serve his country and enlisting in the United States Army in 1970. During his time in the Army, he received the National Defense Service Medal and the Marksman Badge in rifles. After returning home from serving his country, Roger was employed at Duplex Products in Sycamore, Illinois. He then met the love of his life, Deborah Aldridge. They were married on February 11, 1979, in South Beloit, Illinois. They moved to Beloit, Wisconsin where their beloved children Jamie and Tamara were born. The family returned to Dekalb, Illinois and in 1984, Roger began his career as a Parking Patrol Officer for the City of Dekalb. He spent 24 years with the City of Dekalb, until his retirement in June 2008. He enjoyed working with the public and the many friends he made, along the way. He had many colorful stories to share about his time with the City of Dekalb. Roger enjoyed vintage cars, collecting lighthouses, traveling with his wife, taking long
walks
and spending time with his family. Roger lived his life in his own way until the very end with courage, compassion, humor, love,
stubbornness
and a strength to persevere beyond measure. He will be
greatly missed
by his family and all those who loved him. He is finally at rest after a long courageous battle with many illnesses over the last 23 years, of which he always made it “back home”.
He will always be remembered.
He is survived by his wife of 45 years, Deborah Dianna Swedberg, son, Jamie L. Swedberg of Creston, Illinois, daughter, Tamara (Jonathan)
