Rodney "Rod" Nystrom, age 57, of Rockford, passed away on August 15, 2025, at home. He was born on December 29, 1967, the son of Richard and Catherine (Camp) Nystrom. He graduated from Jefferson High School in 1985.
Rod loved roller-skating in his earlier years, with Skateland being his primary hangout spot with his friends. His other passion was classic cars, and while he owned many, his favorite was his 1966 Chevy II Nova. He spent a lot of his time tinkering on his cars and especially loved finding a way to make them go faster. You could count on hearing the loud bass and music when he'd cruise around, as he was great at always finding the best stereo system. When he wasn't in the garage, he liked fishing. Rod was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Rockford.
Rodney is survived by his parents Richard and Catherine Nystrom; his sister Michele Van Fleet and her children, Darin and Kaytie Van Fleet; special aunt Judy (Fay) Smith; and numerous other aunts, uncles, cousin, and close friends in the Rockford, IL area. He was preceded in death by his grandparents Willis and Evelyn Cook and Gust and Alberta Nystrom.
