Rodney L. Mullen, 60, of Rockford, passed away peacefully in his home on October 3, 2024. He was born on May 31, 1964, in Rockford; the son of Everett Jr., and Barbara (Frank) Mullen. Rodney worked as a machinist and a mechanic over the years. He loved to take things apart and fix them. His happy place was tinkering in his garage and shopping at Harbor Freight. He was an avid poker player and enjoyed playing slots at area slot places and casinos. He was also a fisherman and loved to watch the drag races in Byron. His nicknames were “Hot Rod” and “Rockin’ Rodney”. And last, but not least, he enjoyed drinking a “cold one”.
Survivors include his significant other of 29 years Candy Bursing and her grandchildren that he treated like his own, Annabelle, Nick, and Alex Bursing; siblings Teresa (Mike) Spitzer, Tammy (Larry) Ritter, and Chrissy (Mike) Hedrick; several nieces and nephews and great-nieces and nephews. He is predeceased by his parents and sister Kimberly Owen.
A memorial service will be held at 10 am, Thursday, October 10, 2024, at Journey Church Ministries, 7825 Forest Hills Road, Loves Park, IL 61111 with Rev. Bart Bentley officiating. In lieu of flowers, donations may be given to the family for a memorial to be established in Rodney’s name.
