Robert Fischer

December 31, 1969 — November 17, 2021

Robert L. “Bob” Fischer, 52 of Rockford, passed away unexpectedly on November 17, 2021. He was born on March 10th, 1969, in Rockford, the son of John L. and Martha J. (Giglio) Fischer. Bob attended St. Anthony Grade School and East High School.  After completing his apprenticeship, he worked as a Plumber for various companies over the years. He loved to “tinker” with everything, never wanting to throw anything away because he always said that he could fix it and make it useful again.  He liked working on small engines, the challenge of making an old non-running motor run again, but better. A jack of all trades.  He loved minibikes, go carts and dirt bikes the most, bringing out the “kid” in him when riding.  He had many interests, but he really enjoyed fishing – locally & making many trips to Lake Kegonsa, Lake Koshkonong, Lake Mendota in Wisconsin and made a couple of trips to Canada and charter trips to Lake Michigan. He enjoyed going to fishing shows and had a vast collection of fishing equipment that he acquired over the years.  Material things never really meant anything to Bob. He lived simply, was a humble guy and other than having a cell phone, he never owned a computer and was never into any social media, never showed any interest, saying it was a “waste of time” .  He was a people person and truly loved to be around the company of anyone, he always loved to have someone around to enjoy their time together, their stories and never wanting anyone to leave too quick, always wanting them to stay longer and hang out with him. He was quick to make anyone a friend, never meeting a stranger. He shined when he was just hanging out with friends and family, having conversation, a cold beer, cut up, joke around, teasing one another all done in fun. He had a huge heart and would help anyone in need at any time, it didn’t matter who they were, lending his plumbing skills, helping someone fix a mower engine, helping someone move, it didn’t matter. He was there many times for many people. He didn’t have much but he generously gave his time & would literally give the shirt off his back if that is what you needed. Most important of all, he loved his family. Never having children of his own, he was always bragging up his niece and two nephews.   His huge smile, hearty laugh and his silly giggle is going to be missed by many. Bob is survived by his brother John (April) Fischer of Rockford, sister Lori (Mike) Cotner of Rockford, niece Caitlin Fischer of des Moines, Iowa, nephew David Cotner of Rockford, his loyal and loving dog Petey, his very special & close cousin, Brad Peterson, many other cousins, and a huge host of friends. Preceded in death by parents, John & Martha and nephew, Michael Fischer. Stateline Cremations is assisting the family, 712 Windsor Road, Loves Park, Illinois 61111.
