Robert E. “Bob” Coon, 92, of Rockford, passed away on February 23, 2024, in his niece’s home. Born October 2, 1931, in Thomson, IL; the son of Robert and May (Spencer) Coon, Sr. Bob married his childhood sweetheart, Irene Clarke. They were married 70 years. He was a US Navy veteran and he was an iron worker for over 30 years with the Local 498 union. Bob was also a foreman for Area Erectors. His boss always said he didn’t run the company, Bob did. He was known as a hard worker and always fair. Bob and Irene never had any children of their own, so they became very close with their nieces and nephews.
