Richard Messling

February 25, 1946 — July 23, 2024

Richard Lee Messling, 78, departed from this life on July 23, 2024, in his home, surrounded by his family after a battle with cancer. Rich was born on February 25, 1946, in Prairie du Chien, WI, the son of Paul and Ramona. Rich married Terri Martin on April 30, 1966, and they had 3 children, Deanna, Rick, and Brad.

Richard lived in Belvidere, IL and retired from Chrysler after working there for 31 years. His hometown was Steuben, WI which was a special place to him. After he retired in 1998, he lived in Bagley, WI and later had a mini farm in Chadwick, IL before returning to Belvidere to be near his kids.

Rich enjoyed the outdoors very much. He liked to hunt and fish and worked outside every chance he could. He had a passion for cars, motorcycles, and western shows. He rescued many dogs, raccoons, crows, horses, etc. It didn’t matter what species they were; he would help them. He had such a love for animals.

There was no one better to have on your side. He was kind, caring, and protective of the people he loved.

Richard is survived by his wife, Terri Messling, daughter Deanna (Dennis) Daehler; sons Richard (Melissa) Messling and Bradley (Deborah) Messling; grandchildren Ken, Kyle, Kalyn, Cadin, Patrick, Jeremiah, Rikki, and Ricky; brothers Russell Messling and Tom Barton. Rich was preceded in death by his mother Ramona Jamison; father Paul Messling; stepmother Elaine Barton; and brother Paul Messling.

A Celebration of Life will be announced at a later date. Stateline Cremations is assisting the family, 6204 Forest Hills Rd., Loves Park, IL 61111. www.statelinecremations.com
