Regina "Gina" Benson, born on May 12, 1947, in Maine, passed away peacefully on December 4, 2025, in Belvidere, Illinois. She was 78 years old.
Gina was the beloved wife of the late Albert Benson and a devoted mother to her son Daniel and to daughter Elizabeth and her husband Chris. She cherished her role as grandmother to Rachel, Kirstie, Erin, Clarissa, Trystan, and Thaddeus. Her family was a source of great pride and joy throughout her life.
She is also remembered with love by her sister Jackie; brother-in-law Brian; nieces and nephews including Deborah, Rebekah, Tara, Mark and his wife Laura; as well as great-nieces Hannah and Sara. Gina was preceded in death by her father Judson, mother Elsie, husband Albert, sister-in-law Grace, and several brothers.
Throughout her life, Gina found strength and community in her faith. She was an active member of several congregations over the years including Church of the Redeemer in West Monroe, Louisiana; Church of Christian Liberty in Arlington Heights, Illinois; and Good Shepherd Presbyterian Church in Valparaiso, Indiana.
Gina had a deep appreciation for the beauty of the world around her. An avid crocheter, her hands created warmth and comfort for many. A passionate bird watcher, she found joy in quiet observation. She loved word search puzzles and reading, and always had a book nearby. Her love for travel took her to many places where she enthusiastically embraced new experiences and exploration.
Her memory will live on through the lives she touched. May her legacy bring comfort to those who knew and loved her. A Memorial Service will be held on December 29, 2025, from 5:30 PM to 8:30 PM at Providence Orthodox Presbyterian Church, 6219 Forest Hills Rd, Rockford IL 61114.
