Raymond Michael James

July 4, 1968 — April 16, 2026

It is with deep sorrow that we announce the sudden passing of Raymond Michael James (Ray J) at the age of 57, a dedicated and beloved husband, father, and retired firefighter, whose warmth and kindness touched all who knew him. Ray passed away peacefully on Thursday, April 16, 2026, leaving behind a legacy of courage, kindness, perseverance, and unwavering love for his whole family. He was a steady presence in their lives and a source of comfort, laughter, and immeasurable love to his devoted, loving wife, Angie.

Ray found joy in life's simple, meaningful moments- especially sitting outside, soaking in the day's quiet beauty, and sharing friendly conversations with neighbors. Those everyday connections reflected his genuine spirit and the ease with which he made others feel seen and valued. Whether casting a line out on the water, scuba diving, spending time hunting, working skillfully with leather, whittling, or tinkering in the garage on various projects, he embraced the outdoors and the crafts he loved with passion and pride. Those who knew him will remember not just his talents, but the stories, laughter, and quiet wisdom that come with them.

For many years, Ray served his community with honor as a firefighter on multiple departments, embodying bravery and selflessness in the face of danger and adversity. Even after retirement, that same spirit of service remained at the heart of who he was- always ready to lend a hand, offer support, or simply show up when it mattered the most.

Above all else, his wife Angie and daughters, Hailee and Taylor, were his world. He was their protector, biggest supporter, and constant source of love and strength. His playful, sassy, comedic spirit brought light into their lives, and his gentle soul left a lasting mark.

Ray's absence will leave a profound void, but his memory will live in the hearts of those fortunate enough to know him. He will be deeply missed and forever remembered for his gentle nature, warm smile, and the countless lives he has touched.

Raymond Michael James is survived by his beloved wife, Angie, and his cherished daughters Hailee and Taylor. His brothers Robbie Colwell (Stephanie), Rory Colwell (Cathy), Rudy Colwell (Brenda), in-laws Mike and Lori Nelson, brother-in-law Matt (Rianna) Nelson, along with his aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins, and extended family and friends. Raymond is predeceased by Grandma and Grandpa Poe, Mike James (Father), Bob and Rayma Colwell (Stepdad and Mom), and uncles, Russ, Dale, and Joe.

A celebration of life will be held and posted at a future date.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that you honor Ray's memory by spending time with loved ones, helping others in need, or simply enjoying the outdoors as he did. Also, please consider being an organ or tissue donor to Gift if Hope as he did as his final act of Kindness.
