Paul Byl

December 31, 1969 — January 11, 2023

After a courageous battle against cancer, Paul Mervin Byl was taken into Jesus’ open arms on the morning of December 24, 2022. His life was emblazoned with the marks of selfless service and hard work. Notable places of employment included Ipsen Ceramics, Olson Well and Pump, self-employment with Paul’s Pump and Service, Roscoe Ready Mix, and Winnebago School District. He was a proud member of The River’s Edge Bible Church and served on the Pecatonica School Board for many years. Paul was a man of few words, although those that knew him were always aware that his actions spoke louder than any conversation could. He communicated simply, but genuinely, with the belief that your word and a handshake were binding, a smile to show happiness, or a hand on your shoulder to show he was proud or concerned. He made everyone feel accepted and loved unconditionally. Paul was strong minded and determined, some may have said stubborn, yet was always focused on others above himself. At times his honesty was hard to hear, but he made sure others knew his integrity could be trusted. He always saw the potential in a person above any preconceived perception by trusting in their goodness until proven otherwise. He was loved by all who knew him, his friends and family, along with the community he lived among. Paul leaves behind his wife, Rose, of 48 years of marriage along with four children, Carie (Tom) Barker, Kelly (John) Miller, Lynn (Jack) Wilcox, and Daniel (Anna) Byl. He was a proud grandfather of seven and great-grandfather to three. Siblings include Pam Smith, Vicky Larson, Sherry Gatchel, Randy Byl (late), and Kenneth Byl. In lieu of flowers or gifts any donations can be made payable to the Lifescapes Community Services or the Pecatonica Food Pantry.
