Patsy was preceded in death by her parents, Martin and Margaret; daughter, Samantha K. Smith; siblings, Margaret Nicholson, Thomas Smith, Dennis Smith, Judy Smith, Suzanne Louise Smith; half-brothers, Ernie Chatfield, Robert Chatfield, and Mike Smith. Patsy was born to Margaret and Martin Smith on July 18, 1956 in Rockford, Illinois. In her younger years, Patsy, and her sisters, Suzanne and Judy could be seen taking on the town, having fun and spreading laughter wherever they went. Patsy was a social light and took on the role of being the life of many parties. She was especially fond of her time living on Blackhawk Island, which she called the “Yellow Brick Road”. You could always count on her throwing a big party, with good music and good drinks. Although she believed in a dose of tough love and being straight forward, it was never outshined by her big heart and being your shoulder to cry on. She believed in always opening her house to anyone in need, whether for a meal, a visit, or a place to rest your head. Patsy was known for her fried potatoes and fried chicken, but she herself was always in the mood for T-Bone steaks and chicken wings. One of the things she enjoyed most was being with her family, especially her grandchildren, great grandchildren. She was known as a great influence on her grandchildren and great grandchildren. She enjoyed their company greatly, especially in her time at Serenity Hospice Home. The family would like to extend their gratitude for the outpouring in love and support for Patsy’s care to CJ, Brittany, and Deanna, and the rest of the staff of Serenity Hospice Home. In her later years, she enjoyed taking trips with her boyfriend of 29 years, Michael Fortner. They would go to Las Vegas to Florida, and everywhere in between.
