Michael Ruffcorn

Michael Clemence Ruffcorn Sr. passed away January 28, 2022, around 4:35PM, after a long battle with colon and liver cancer, in his home surrounded by his family. Mike was a warrior and fought hard for 3 years and 8 months. He was born February 6, 1961, in Ashland, Wisconsin to Clemence and Lorraine Ruffcorn. Mike moved to Rockford when he was 18, after he graduated, and touched many lives. Mike married Stacie Haven on October 13, 1984, at Third Presbyterian Church in Rockford. Mike was a hard worker throughout his life. He worked as a tool grinder for different companies such as Tool Form, Class A Grinder, and Regal Cutting Tools. Mike touched many lives while working and made lifelong friends. Mike loved his coffee, sweets, and steaks. It did not matter how hot it was, Mike had a cup of coffee in his hands. Mike took an interest in kids’ lives, whether it was through coaching or bus ministry. Mike was an assistant elementary and junior high coach for Berean Baptist Schools while his kids’ played sports. Many kids that were under Mike still call him “Coach”. Mike was recruited to work for the bus ministry at Berean for about 15 years. He loved to see the kids smile and be a part of their lives. Mike was diagnosed with cancer in June of 2018. He fought hard for the last 3 years and 8 months. He made so many lasting memories with his family and friends. He took some trips to Ashland, Wisconsin. He visited Lambeau Field with his family. He loved fishing with his grandsons and loved all his grandchildren so much. He loved to take them to the fair and get corndogs. He loved holding his granddaughter, Mattie Joy, and perked up every time he video-called her. He loved playing Cribbage with anyone who wanted to play. Mike truly loved his family time whether it was cookouts, dinners or just hanging out.
Mike is survived by his spouse, Stacie Ruffcorn; children, Michael (Carissa) Jr., Sarah, and Matthew (Joanna); sister, Helen (Robert) Boyle; grandchildren, Michael III, Caleb, Zander, and Mattie; many brothers-in-law, sister-in-law, nephews, nieces, and cousins. Mike was preceded in death by his parents, Clemence and Lorraine; sister, Susan Kelly; grandchildren, Matthew, Matteo, Zachery and Logan. A celebration of life visitation for Michael will take place Thursday, February 3, 2022, at 11:00 A.M., with a memorial service to begin at 12:00 P.M., at Third Presbyterian Church, 1221 Custer Avenue, Rockford, Illinois, 61103. Memorials may be made to the family.
