Michael Minakes

Michael James Minakes, 56, passed away at home surrounded by his family on June 19, 2021 in Marengo, Illinois. Michael was born to Matthew and Donna Minakes on February 9, 1965, in Belvidere, Illinois. Mike was a 1983 graduate of Marengo Community High School and went on to work for the Chicago Painter’s Union 147 throughout his life. He was an honorary member of “Golfoholic’s Golf League”, and the Men’s Pool League. On December 22, 2020, Mike married Victoria “Vickie” Volpendesta. He was always in the mood to chase a good storm, but when the weather was nice, you could count on him to be mowing his yard or working on the garden. Mike was also known for being a self-proclaimed chef and loved nothing more than to spend time in the kitchen with his wife Vickie. Above all else, Mike was a family man. He was at every sporting event or family gathering.  Mike is survived by his wife, Victoria Minakes; mother, Donna Minakes; step-daughters, Cierra Volpendesta and Carissa Volpendesta; Sisters, Teresa (Mike) Baber, Linda (Scott) Mason; brother, Tim (Susie) Minakes; nieces, Tiffany, Ashley, Emily, Lilly, and Shayna. As well as paternal aunt, Elaine Goolsby (Minakes). Mike was preceded in death by his father, Matthew Minakes; maternal and paternal grandparents; furry companion, Raja “Poopie” Minakes – who passed away recently on May 18, 2021. A memorial service for Michael will take place on Saturday June 26, 2021 at 10 am at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Marengo, Il. 323 N. Taylor St. Marengo, Il 60152.
