Matt Foltz, 45, of Rockford, passed away unexpectedly on July 10, 2026. He was born on October 16, 1980, in Rockford, the son of Randy and Terri (Degarmo) Foltz. Matt married Brandy L. Norup on September 4, 2008.
From the time he was old enough to hold a wrench, Matt worked alongside his dad, Randy, at Foltz Transmission Service on Central Avenue. Known to many as "Mr. Fix-It," Matt had an incredible ability to repair just about anything. Even as a young child, he would take apart his toys, figure out how they worked, and put them back together again—often better than before. He was a mechanical genius with a natural gift for understanding how things worked. For the past five years, Matt worked as an Area Maintenance Technician for the United States Postal Service, where his talents and dedication were valued every day.
To say Matt loved motorcycles would be an understatement. He custom rebuilt the rear end of his 2005 Harley-Davidson Softail and took great pride in his work. His passion extended to anything with an engine and a little speed, including dirt bikes, snowmobiles, cars, and just about anything mechanical.
Matt also loved bringing people together. He was happiest when surrounded by family and friends, whether he was tending the smoker, grilling a great meal, hosting bonfires, or putting on fireworks displays during the holidays. A kid at heart, Matt had a contagious enthusiasm for life and simply loved having fun and making lasting memories with the people he loved.
Survivors include his wife Brandy Foltz; children Justin and Aliyah Foltz; parents Randy and Terri Foltz; nephews Shawn Foltz and German Flores; and numerous aunts, uncles, cousins, and bonus kids; and honorary brother Eric Jackson. He is predeceased by his brother Michael Foltz; maternal and paternal grandparents; aunts Pam Degarmo and LeeAnn Mcleod; uncle David Degarmo; and honorary brother Danny Burton.
