Mary Sims dedicated 35 years to educating young children in the Rockford Public School District. She was born September 24, 1942, to Paul and Agatha Sims in Princeton, IL. Mary graduated high school in Tiskilwa, IL followed by earning her Bachelor of Arts in Education at Illinois State University and in 1994 her master’s in educational leadership through St. Xavier University. Mary was a member of the Retired Rockford Education Association, Illinois Education Association, and National Education Association. Her interests included volunteering for many community organizations, bowling, and caring for gardens and lawns.
Survivors include her beloved cat, Delilah; goddaughters Jennifer (Albrecht) Donnelly, Teresa (Downey) Gabriel and Wanda (Sims) Wagner; four sisters, Jenny Houston, Clara (George) Janet, Cecelia Sims and Carol (Mark) Albrecht; one brother Fred (Sharon) Sims; and many wonderful nieces, nephews, grandnieces, grandnephews, and cousins. She was preceded in death by her parents; 3 brothers, Charles Sims, Cletus Sims, and Edward Sims and one sister Elizabeth Downey.
A Memorial Mass will be at 10:30 am, Friday, April 5, 2024, at St. Louis Catholic Church, 616 S. Gosse Boulevard, Princeton, IL 61356.
