Mary Ellen Rhodes, 77, passed away peacefully on June 20, 2024, with her family by her side following some health complications. Mary was born on December 20, 1946, in Rockford, Illinois to Carl and Ada Finley.
Mary grew up in Rockford and graduated from Auburn High School in 1964. She married William Rhodes in 1966. After raising her two children, she worked as an administrative assistant in the continuing education department at Rock Valley College. She was an active member of Aldersgate United Methodist Church serving on several committees over the years. She enjoyed cross stitch, reading, going on cruises and spending time with friends and family. Her grandchildren enjoyed playing cards and doing puzzles with their grandmother.
Mary is survived by her husband of 57 years, William Rhodes; her daughter Nicole (Bret) Parkhill; her son Michael (Cristy) Rhodes; her grandchildren Lexi Kirk and Trevor Kirk. She is also survived by her siblings Shelley (Mark) Fridly and Paul (Joanne) Finley.
Mary was predeceased by her parents Carl and Ada Finley.
Per Mary’s wishes, there will be no services. The family would like to thank her medical care team at Javon Bea Hospital.
