Mary Horsman

December 31, 1969 — August 26, 2022

UPDATED SERVICE INFORMATION:
Mary Belle (Snow) Horsman, 86, of Loves Park, Illinois, passed away peacefully in the early hours of Friday, August 26, 2022, at Wesley Willows. Mary was born on October 14, 1935, to Freeman and Virgie Smith Snow in Pocahontas, Arkansas. Mary moved to Rockford as a teenager, eventually making the Loves Park area the place she called home.  In time, she found employment at Woodward Governor where she worked as an overhaul and repair technician, retiring after 25 years of service. Mary was also a long-time member of Riverside Community Church where she made lifelong friends who became family.  Mary had a strong sense of family. After losing her mother at a young age, she, her father, and four siblings learned the true meaning of family values, which Mary made sure to pass that belief system onto her children, grand-children, and great-grandchildren. “Gran” was the matriarch of her family, always looking forward to spending as many holidays and family events together as possible.  During her time living in Loves Park, she was an avid gardener, loved reading, and was passionate about continuous learning, often taking classes at The Center of Learning in Retirement through Rock Valley College. She enjoyed playing cards, especially Canasta and Poker, noting that she taught the grandkids poker as soon as they were old enough to push pennies around the table.  Mary is survived by her children, E. Sue (Dan) Van Sickle and Alan (Sandy) Horsman; grandchildren, Kristina (Wendy) Tableman, Ryan (Meghan) Horsman, Jenny Madonia (Jason Langs), Rob (Vanessa) Van Sickle, and Kristina (Nick) Bell; great-grandchildren, Allison Tableman, Lauren Tableman, Declan Horsman, Renn Horsman, Jake Madonia, Ellie Madonia, and Jonathan Mitchell; brother, Bill Snow; and many great-great-grandchildren, nieces, and nephews.  She was preceded in death by her parents, Freeman and Virgie Smith Snow; siblings, Harold Snow, Ivon Weatherford, Eva Snow, and special sister-in-law Opal Snow. A Memorial Service for Mary will take place on Saturday, September 17, 2022, at 10:30 A.M., at Riverside Community Church, 6816 North Second Street, Machesney Park, Illinois 61115. In lieu of flowers, please consider making a charitable contribution in Mary's name to Wesley Willows or Hospice Care of America.
