Mary Hammer

Mary Catherine Hammer, 60, passed away peacefully on Saturday, July 2, 2022, in Rockford, Illinois. Mary was born on January 13, 1962, to Carol and Thomas Hammer in Rockford. She attended Rockford West High School, graduating in the class of 1980. She went on to work as a baker with her father at Hammer’s Swedish Bakery here locally. She went on to work as a cashier and an assistant manager at local gas stations.  Mary was kind, compassionate, gentle and sweet. She cherished all of her friendships, and was always willing to help and support her friends in any way she could. She looked forward to all opportunities of spending time with her family- whether it be a holiday, birthday, or celebration. She looked forward to Christmas with her family the most. Mary loved animals, and had a unique, gentle, touch with them. Mary is survived by her sister, Barbara (Tony) Harwick; nephew, Ryne's (Jenna) Harwick; great-nephews, Brycen, Owen, and Greyson; Aunts, Donna Bodoh, Paula (Ray) Stark; special cousins; many special friends. She was preceded in death by her parents, Carol and Thomas; Maternal and Paternal grandparents. Private services for Mary will take place at a later date.
