Mary Funk

Mary E. Funk of Rockford, 50 passed away at 8:30 pm on Monday February 1, 2021 at Forest City Rehab and Nursing Center where she currently resided. She was overcome by her battle with ovarian cancer. Mary was born on December 9, 1970. She attended Winnebago High School from which she graduated. On her journey, Mary met Leroy Bassett Jr at a summer job training program offered through school. Although Mary and Leroy attended different schools, they fell in love and had a daughter Tina Esquivel (Bassett) on June 14, 1990. On July 5, 1990, they decided to get married to live together and raise their daughter. Mary and Leroy had their share of ups and downs throughout the relationship and eventually separated, although they remained good friends until the end of her journey. Mary will be dearly missed and loved by those that knew her. Well known for her spunky personality and flamboyant attitude, Mary really enjoyed going bowling, going out to eat and watching movies with her family. Her favorite place to eat was called Fiesta Cancun, an authentic Mexican restaurant. Mary would go there frequently with her best friend and ex-husband Leroy. She leaves behind her ex-husband Leroy Bassett Jr, their daughter Tina Esquivel (Bassett) and her new granddaughter Kataleya Esquivel plus many friends that are too many to be listed.  ?
