Marvin Stroud

November 4, 1942 — July 21, 2025

Marvin "Marv" Glen Stroud, age 82 passed away on July 21, 2025, after a long and courageous battle with cancer. He was surrounded by those he loved. Born on November 4, 1942, in Mohawk, Tennessee, son of Glenn and Ruby (Petit) Stroud, he graduated from Belvidere high school in 1961 and proudly served his country in the United States Army, entering service on October 2, 1962, and attained the rank of Specialist 4. On February 15, 1963, Marv married the love of his life, Mitzi Cook. Together, they built a strong and loving family rooted in faith and dedication. He worked as a machinist for White Sunstrand for many years and worked as a custodian for Belvidere High School until his retirement. He was a proud lifetime member of the Belvidere VFW and the Eagles Club in Rockford and was a member of Immanuel Lutheran Church. A man of many passions, Marv enjoyed golfing and was an excellent golfer. A lifelong sports fan, he cheered faithfully for the Chicago White Sox and the Minnesota Vikings. In his younger years he loved bowling, playing softball, racquetball, and throwing horseshoes with his brothers. One of his greatest joys in later life was watching his granddaughters play volleyball. Marv enjoyed being around people. He loved having a good laugh, and making people laugh. Marv had a gift for making friends wherever he went, and will be remembered for his warm spirit, easygoing nature, and love for his family. Marv is survived by his beloved wife, Mitzi Stroud; son Michael (Jane) Stroud; daughter Mindy Stroud; brother Glenn Jr. (Debbra) Stroud; granddaughters Megan (Josh) Jonaitis and Amanda (Derek) Ernest; and great-grandchildren Luke Jonaitis, Maya Jonaitis, Aaron Stroud, and Charlie Ernest. He was preceded in death by his parents, Glenn and Ruby Stroud, and his brothers Everette (Marlene), Jimmie, Roger, and Alan Stroud.

A Celebration of Life will be held from 1 to 3 pm on Sunday, August 17, 2025 at the Boone County Community Grange, 8971 IL Rt. 76, Belvidere, IL 61008. Stateline Cremations is assisting the family, 6204 Forest Hills Rd., Loves Park, IL 61111. www.statelinecremations.com
