Marlene M. Yarbrough, 77, of Rockford, IL, passed away at Swedish American Hospital on Monday, January 9, 2023. Marlene was born to Irene (Nyquist) and Rudolf Gustofson on May 26, 1945, in Rockford. Throughout her life, she worked at Barber Coleman, the Rockford Public School board, primarily at Martin Luther King and Washington Middle Schools, as a secretary to the principals, and Warner Lambert in their human resource department. Marlene was outgoing, and loved to spend time with her girlfriends. She and her husband, James, were in various dart leagues through Shooters, even ending up in Las Vegas for tournaments. Vegas was a special place to her and James, as they were married there in the 90’s. She would tag along with James as he’d fish, and she would work on her tan. They loved going out together and doing karaoke at JMK Nippon, or going out for a meal at Red Lobster. She is survived by her husband, James L. Yarbrough Sr.; son, Andrew (Young Nam) Light; stepchildren, James L. Yarbrough Jr., Melony Yarbrough, and Jefferson Yarbrough; step-grandson, Bong Jin Jung; sister, Darlene (Richard) Lee; nieces and nephews, Crystal Swanson, Todd Aspling, D-ann (Lee) Erickson, and Jay Lee. She was preceded in death by her parents, Irene and Rudolf; sister, Kathlene (Clyde) Aspling Stateline Cremations is assisting the family, 712 Windsor Road, Loves Park, Illinois 61111.
