Mark “Tony” McConnell, 68, passed away peacefully at home with his furry companion, JoJo, by his side on Tuesday, May 18, 2021 in Rockford, Illinois. Tony was born to Goldie and John McConnell on July 22, 1952 in Walnut Ridge, Arkansas. Tony was raised in Rockford and attended Rockford area schools. Tony worked for AAA Disposal in Roscoe, Illinois for many years before his move to Arkansas, where he was an ironworker. Tony was an avid Washington Football Team fan, as well as NASCAR. He enjoyed playing golf. Aside from sports, Tony was fond of working in the yard and gardening. He even used his gift of carpentry to craft things for the house. When listening to music, you could count on him listening to classic rock- his favorite band being Led Zeppelin. Tony made friends with anyone he came across. He was a proud member of the Human Rights Party. Tony is survived by his soulmate, Jackie Hickey; children, Michelle (Vic) Wilder, Matt (Jen) McConnell; grandchildren, Nick, Andrew, Addy, Austin, Marissa, Hunter, Allie and Jake; sister, Terri (Curt) Vangsness; brothers, Dan (Gail) McConnell, and Vic (Cheri) McConnell; numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins; dog, JoJo; many friends. Tony is preceded in death by his parents, Goldie and John; brothers, Pat McConnell, John “Mike” McConnell, and Frank McConnell; sister-in-law, Jayne McConnell. A memorial service for Tony is to be announced at a later date.
