Marion E. (Schindler) Young, 96, of Rockford, passed away in her home on December 17, 2023, surrounded by her family. She was born July 3, 1927, in Rock Grove, IL; the daughter of John and Bernice (Lynch) Schindler. She grew up and lived in Belvidere until moving to Rockford in 1960. She married Joseph W. Young on December 19, 1947. He passed away in 1984. Marion worked for Sears in the catalog department on Main Street for 25 years. She was also a sample lady for 8 years at Sam’s Club retiring in 2009 at the age of 82! She was a member of The Eastern Star in Belvidere for 50 years. She was also a member of the Coronado Theatre Organ Society, and the Forest City Baptist Church. She helped start the Rockford Rescue Mission with her husband and the Pitney’s and worked there from 1965 until 1984 when her husband passed away. She read to the blind on the radio station NIRIS. She leaves behind her lifelong friend Dorothy “Dottie’ Helman, and close friend Dorothy Selmo. The family would like to extend a thank you to Northern Illinois Hospice for their care and compassion for Marion.
Survivors include her children Jerry Young and Julia (Scott Sharp) Fultz; grandchildren Michael (Myra) Miller, Joseph (Crystal) Strobbe, Skye (Billy) Samuels, Autumn Samuels, Zachary Sharp, and Alyssa Chandler; 9 great-grandchildren; 4 great-great grandchildren; and 6 nieces and 1 nephew. She is predeceased by her parents; husband Joseph; sister Janice (Warren) Schwartz; brother John (Marguerite) Schindler; and brother-in-law Dale (Noel) Young.
A Celebration of Life will be held 1 to 4 pm, Sunday, January 14, 2024, at the Blackhawk Athletic Club, 2023 Broadway, Rockford, IL 61104. Stateline Cremations is assisting the family, 6204 Forest Hills Rd., Loves Park, IL 61111.
