Lynn Johnson, known as Lynn, achieved final victory over this life and it’s struggles on November 8, 2024, at 10:45 am. She left her earthen vessel and attained a glorious eternal life with her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. No more battles, no more pain, and no more tears. She is now living fully in the hope that she had and shared with all of us.
Lynn was born on October 17, 1948, in Beloit, Wisconsin to parents Robert S. and Mary W. Doerr, who both have predeceased her. They moved to Benton, IL in Lynn’s toddler years, and there she grew and flourished in her life with her family, riding the family pony Target, playing with the family boxer, Babe, learning life skills, and forming friendships that continue to this day. In 1964, the family moved to Rockford, IL where Lynn attended her junior year at East High School. Her senior year, she attended Guilford High School, graduating in June of 1966. Lynn met her husband, Bill, “William C. Johnson”, on a blind date in May of 1966, right before her graduation from high school. They were married October 12, 1968, and just recently celebrated their 56
th
wedding anniversary.
Lynn gained employment at Apsco Products and worked there until October of 1972, leaving when she gave birth to their son Chad. She then became a stay-at-home mother. She loved her home, and she truly loved her gardens, which were filled with beautiful flowers and many, many garden décor items she collected over the years. If it was rusty, she had it! She had an amazing green thumb, and she shared her flowers and garden produce with everyone, even this past year. Her two other great loves were her grandsons Roman Seth and Tyler Cole Johnson. Many expeditions, weekends and Friday night cookies all with hugs of love. She was also industrious and entrepreneurial. She had a small business making Tilly Dolls, the Furry Flowers. She found her niche when she began her cake decorating business. Her cakes were desired, ordered, and bought far and wide. She baked and designed some of the most beautiful and tasty cakes and her wedding cakes were masterpieces. In 2001, Lynn took a position at Superior Joining Technologies, Inc. She continued there until her retirement in July of 2021. She truly loved her job at SJTI, loved the owners and all her fellow employees. At the time of her passing, she worked a couple of afternoons each week at Treasures Galore, and like before, loved and enjoyed all the ladies she worked with there.
Her Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, November 23, 2024, at Rock Church, 6732 Harrison Ave. Rockford, IL 61108. The visitation will begin at 10 am, the Celebration will be at 11 am, followed by a luncheon at the church. All memorial gifts will be used to purchase and plant a tree at the Rockford Arboretum in her memory, and any additional gifts will be donated to the Crisis Pregnancy Center.
