Lucille "Lou" M. Gray, born September 13, 1922, to parents Agnes Bailey and William Farrell, in Ottawa, IL. She died on April 1, 2025, in her home surrounded by family. Lou was raised in Ottawa, IL and Dayton, OH. She eventually moved to Rockford, IL in 1936 with her mother and stepfather, William Behler. Lou graduated from Rockford Central High School in 1940. She met and married the love of her life, Lloyd Gray. They married on December 22, 1942. She worked at Woodward Governor before taking a police secretary job, where she was made the first policewoman in Loves Park by then Chief Richard Whale in 1960. In 1964 she ran for City Clerk of Loves Park, where she stayed until her retirement in 1978. She joined the Rockford Park District as a secretary to then director, Webbs Norman, until her retirement in 1990. One she retired, Lou embraced her favorite sport, golf. Playing in 2 leagues, she met many dear friends, as well as bringing her old friends into the fold for many years. She was very influential on her grandsons to embrace it, as well.
Lou is survived by her sister Phyllis of El Paso, TX; her son Michael (Barbara) Gray; daughter Nancy (Steve) Hubler; grandsons Shawn (Abbey) Gray, Ryan Gray, Chris Hubler, Jordan (Lauren Bartling) Hubler; great grandchildren Michael, Christian, Lucy, Thomas, Ava, and Gabriel Gray.
