Lester Guffey

Lester Eugene Guffey, 90, of Rockford, passed away on August 12, 2025, at Alden Park Strathmoor. He was born in Freeport, IL; the son of Joseph and Mabel Guffey. He served in the US Army as a Private First Class. He was awarded the Good Conduct Medal and was a sharpshooter (Carbine). He married Reitha Charlene Bond on March 30, 1957. Lester worked in construction. He enjoyed gardening and working in his yard and was very proud of his "Yard of Distinction" Award. He helped coach many softball teams over the years. He was a member of St. Bridget Church.

Survivors include his son Mark Guffey of Kansas City, MO; daughters Crystal (Steve) Harring of Rockford, IL, Kathy (Todd) Carver of Wichita, KS, Michelle (Steven) Benedict of Loves Park, IL, and Kelly (Jay) Etherton of Lincoln, IL; 13 grandchildren Ryan Guffey, Courtney Guffey, David Guffey, Jacob Harring, Emma Harring, Matthew (Carissa Dean) Speer, Michael (Natalie Little) Speer, Autumn Carver, Paige Carver, Brenton (Amanda) Benedict, Nick (Lindsay Paun) Benedict, Branden Schneider, and Haden Hankins; 6 + 1 great-grandchildren Tegan, Logan, Penelope, Olivia, Charleigh, Parker, and baby Boy Speer; brother Joseph Guffey of Madison, WI; sister Irene Krieger of Reno, NV; and many nieces and nephews. He is predeceased by his parents; wife Reitha; brothers William, Leo, John; and sisters Mildred, Margaret, and Mary.
