Lawrence St. Clair

February 23, 1933 — May 18, 2025

Lawrence "Larry" D. St. Clair of Rockford, Illinois passed away on 5/18/25 He was born in Kansas on 2/23/1933 to Flora Evelyn (Fitzwilliam) St. Clair and Bertram Herman St. Clair. Larry is remembered by family, friends, and neighbors as a jovial, intelligent, humble, and helpful man with a wry sense of humor interspersed with sarcasm. He enjoyed puttering around the house fixing things, cooking, and solving word games with his wife Janis. He relished lively discussions on politics and religion, traveling with his family on throughout the United Stated and Canada, Iceland, and St. Eustatius and St. Martin. He was an

avid reader of The New Yorker, National Geographic, The Smithsonian, local newspapers and many works of nonfiction, especially biographies.

As a young person, Larry worked many jobs, from helping his dad on oil rigs to building garages. Larry attended Southern Illinois University until he was drafted into the U.S. Army during the Korean War. After returning from his service in England, he made his name in plastics sales for various companies such as Continental Plastics, LNP, Xolox, and later his own company Kylar, specializing in raw materials for injection molding applications. His sharp engineering mind endeared him to his clients as he often worked with them cooperatively to diagnose and resolve issues and specifications with their molding machinery.

He is predeceased by his parents, his cherished wife of nearly 67 years, Janis Rae (Anderson) St. Clair, beloved son-in-law Quasim Ali Hamdani, beloved daughter-in-law Sandra (Hagist) St. Clair, and his ten siblings, Matt, Denny, Ronnie, Gary, Keith, Bertram, Alice, Donna, Phyllis, and JoAnn. He is survived by his son Phillip Kyle St. Clair, his daughter Laurie Ann (St. Clair) Hamdani with her partner Keith Kohley, granddaughters Sara Bano Hamdani with her husband Robert Reilly, and Isha Rae Hamdani Ferrario with her husband Nicholas Ferrario, grandsons Cameron Andrew St. Clair and Morgan Patrick St. Clair, and

great grandsons Shea Ali Reilly, Ira William Reilly, and Theodore Joseph Ali Ferrario, and nieces, nephews and their families too many to mention.

Larry, when queried about how he was, would invariably respond by saying "perfect", with a slight grin on his lips and a twinkle in his eye. Now he is "perfect" and at peace.
