Laurie Lee Ishmael was born on March 26, 1958, in Chicago and grew up in Crown Point alongside her seven siblings. On May 13, 2026, Laurie peacefully lost her courageous battle with cancer. Though she fought with incredible strength and determination, she ultimately found peace and acceptance, comforted by her unwavering faith and the promise of eternal life with Our Lord Jesus Christ.
Laurie was preceded in death by her beloved parents, Carl Turner and Carol Brown; her brothers, Jimmy Turner and Johnny Turner; and her sisters, Renee Bernard and Linda Foreman (Turner).
She leaves behind a loving family who will forever cherish her memory: her daughters, Christine Marie Ishmael and Brittney Lee Ishmael; her treasured grandchildren, Janiya Lee Davis, Carter Robert Lewis, and Camren Jamison Lewis; Her brother; Carl (Mike) Turner, and her sisters, Barbara Lurz (Turner) and Candice DeLine (Brown).
Laurie was a devoted and loving mother whose nurturing spirit touched everyone around her. Her compassionate heart led her to a nursing career that spanned more than 30 years, where she cared for countless individuals with kindness, patience, and dedication.
She found joy in life’s simple pleasures — fishing, family gatherings, the ocean, crocheting, dancing, antique shopping, and attending auctions. Laurie had a beautiful soul, a contagious laugh, and a smile that could brighten any room. Above all, she was a devoted Christian who shared a close and faithful relationship with the Lord throughout her life.
Laurie’s love, strength, and warmth will remain forever in the hearts of those who knew and loved her. She will be deeply missed but joyfully remembered until the day her family sees her again in Heaven.
To the loved ones of Laurie, we express our sincere appreciation for all the prayers, love, support, and acts of kindness shown during the time of her illness, and when she went home to our Lord Jesus – Chris and Britt
