Kristin Schonberg

December 31, 1969 — June 24, 2021

Kristin (Hagen) Schonberg died on June 24, 2021, due to complications from Covid. She was born January 31st, 1943, to Oscar and Eunice (Rogers) Hagen, raised in the Harlem Village area and graduated from Harlem School District in 1961. In high school she was active in Acapella Choir and Madrigals. Music was important to her throughout her life, and she loved harmonizing as an alto in many church services, choirs, and praise teams. She especially enjoyed singing with RSVP, a southern gospel quartet plus one. She was employed by Barber Colman Co., Computer Services Center of G.C. Electronics, and for Country Companies Insurance. She met and married Christopher Schonberg in 1972. As they became Mr. Chris & Mrs. Kris, he teased her that he married her because she had a name he could remember!  Mrs. Kris had a special love for children and was grateful to be able to help raise her husband’s two sons, Mark, and Michael, from ages 10 and 8. She also loved dearly and babysat often for nieces and nephews spanning over 4 generations! Since she couldn’t bear children of her own, she was given an incredible gift in 1992 which included her presence for the birth of Eric Lewis; she became his extra “Nana”. In 2002 another special baby came into her life named Maxwell Schonberg, a great- nephew. Caring for Max, again as “Nana”, filled her heart to near capacity! The Lord was her Rock and leaning post. She attended Northeast Christian from the age of 13 & in later years attended First Covenant at Wood Road. For those who knew her best, she wanted them to remember this…” she wasn’t bossy…she just had better ideas.” Survived by sister Lori Briggs of Machesney Park; brothers Jim (Nancy) Hagen of Chillicothe, Ohio; and Ken Hagen (significant other, JoAnn Clayton) of Fountain Hills, AZ; grandnephew/grandson Maxwell Schonberg; many nieces and nephews and their spouses, two stepsons Mark (Kay) Schonberg of Rockford, Michael (Nettie) Schonberg of Monroe Center, and many dear beloved friends. Predeceased by parents, husband Chris, Sister Susan (Hagen) Tiehlman, nephew Phil Cacioppi, great nephew Mat Cacioppi and many aunts, uncles, and cousins. There will be no services. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to Parkinson’s Associations, Rock House Kids or the Crisis Pregnancy Center in her memory. Stateline Cremations is assisting the family, 712 Windsor Rd. Loves Park, IL 61111.
