Kenneth Eugene Carter, 71, of Machesney Park, Illinois, passed away peacefully at his home surrounded by his family on Wednesday, June 18, 2025. He was born to Kermit Eugene and Neta Norma Dean (Jones) Carter in Rockford, Illinois on December 6, 1953.

Ken lived most of his life in Rockford except for a short period in McAllen, Texas. He was married to Michelle Martin on July 29, 1988, and together they loved and cared for many large and small dogs, several of which they rescued and fostered. Ken enjoyed riding his motorcycle, repairing small engines, and doing intricate scroll sawing projects, generoulsly sharing many beautiful pieces with others. He was employed at various places in the Rockford area, including Stone Hydraulics, Hydroline, Roper Whitney, Aqua Aerobic, and Tractor Town. He also worked for a short time with Wisconsin companies, Schneider and Roehl Trucking.

He is survived by his wife, Michelle of Machesney Park, Illinois; sisters Gail (Thomas) Miller of Roscoe, Illinois, and Ruth Ours of Machesney Park, Illinois; wife's parents Darlene and Walter Girton of Apache Junction, Arizona; sisters-in-law Carol Phillips Foster of San Tan Valley, Arizona, Amy Jo "AJ" (Kathy Delcore) Orsborn of Union Grove, Wisconsin; Valerie Hissong of Phoenix, Arizona; Christine (David) Sprowson of Phoenix, Arizona; Stephanie (Glenn Parnell) Phillips-Cannon of Hagerstown, Maryland; Julie Phillips of Phoenix, Arizona, Robin (James) Noble of Williams, Arizona; numerous nieces and nephews and their children; aunts, uncles, and cousins; a host of long-time friends; and his special pup Rebel. Ken was predeceased by his parents; by his good friend Bill Scales; and several beloved fur babies.

A visitation will be held Monday, June 30, 2025, at 11:00 am at First Baptist Church of Machesney Park, 718 Harlem Rd., Machesney Park, IL 61115 with a Memorial Service to follow at 12:00 pm.
