Joyce Lundstrom

June 14, 1930 — January 5, 2025

Joyce Lundstrom, Age 94 joined her family in heaven on January 5, 2025. Joyce was born in Rockford Illinois on Flag Day, June 14, 1930.  She often recalled that her father told her that everyone flew their American Flags, for her birthday. Joyce grew up during the great depression and became an accomplished seamstress at a young age saving her father a lot of money with each new garment she crafted. She also often boasted about knitting in the dark at a movie theater. She must have knitted hundreds of fancy sweaters as gifts throughout the years. Joyce was a daughter, sister, wife, mother, grandmother, Great Grandmother and Aunt.

Joyce was once well known in Rockford for figure skating and golf.  She skated professionally for "Stars on Ice" with her sister Lois, as pair skaters, in the Chicago Stadium.

Joyce was also a competitive tournament golfer, in the Greater Rockford area, who won many trophies.  She golfed alongside her sister and many well-known male golfers like Dean Lind, Roger Lindeman, and a guy they called "Hooks".  Lois and Joyce were challenging competition for them. They all played from the same teeing ground, as there was not yet a women's tee.

Joyce graduated from Rockford East High School in the class of 1948 and served on the class reunion committee for years following. She was married on May 25, 1957, to Milton Arlin "Rusty" Lundstrom in Trinity Lutheran Church. Although they graduated from the same class at East High School, they met later at a figure skating rink in Blackhawk Park where Joyce's family organized skating lessons and ice shows each winter.

Joyce was an executive secretary at Valspar Paint Company.  She worked closely with Ralph Baudhuin CEO, and others until the birth of her first child.  One of her jobs at Valspar was to name paint colors. Haven't you always wondered who does that? Later she worked an Amway business under the tutelage of her Sister Lois. She also worked in the family printing business for a time. In later years, Joyce returned to the Secretarial profession working various temporary positions at Sundstrand and finally full time at American Pfauter in Loves Park until retirement.

Over the years she was a member of various churches.  She grew up and was married at Trinity Lutheran church. Later she joined Evangelical Covenant Church and would attend various other churches for special events or speakers.  Church was very important to Joyce.  At the time of her death, she was a member of "Living Faith Church".

She passed away at home after a long history of heart disease.  She is predeceased by her Parents, Ray & Hazel Dahlquist (Ray F. Dahlquist Park in Rockford), her sister Lois Woodworth and her husband Milton (Rusty) Lundstrom.  She is survived by a daughter, a son Jeffrey Lundstrom, two granddaughters, two great grandsons, and three nephews.

A Celebration of Life will be held on her Flag Day birthday, June 14, 2025, in Dahlquist Park (named after her father Ray) at the shelter house.  All are welcome to drop by from 1:00 pm to 3:00 pm.
