Joseph Hines

October 2, 1959 — July 31, 2024

Joseph Rogers Hines, affectionately known as Joe, passed away suddenly and peacefully in his home on July 30, 2024, likely while watching his beloved Chicago Cubs. Born into a family full of love and laughter, Joe is survived by his sisters, Julie Hines-Lyman (Mike Lyman) and Nancy Wicklund (Greg), as well as his brother, Anthony Hines. He leaves behind his cherished son, Caden Joseph Hines, and his nephew, Seth Wicklund. Joe was preceded in death by his parents, Shirley Rogers Hines and Robert Gene Hines, and his brothers, Thomas Gene Hines and John (Jack) Orlyn Hines.

Joe had a passion for golf, though he often loved to hate the game, and he was a dedicated fan of the Cubs and the Bears. He found joy in all things rock and roll, especially live music, classic rock, and jam bands. His passion for music was boundless, from attending countless concerts to listening to classic rock 24-7. Saturday Flashback and Breakfast with the Beatles on WRXT were the soundtrack to Joe's weekends, providing a musical backdrop that infused his life with joy and connections to friends and family. In the last few years, Joe became an avid and successful trivia enthusiast, often impressing friends and family with his vast knowledge and quick wit as a member of the team The Blind Squirrels.

For 30 years, Joe worked with the United States Postal Service, where he took great pride in his role, especially in his work with the union. He was a brilliant, gentle, and loving man with a sharp sense of humor, often masking his tender heart with a curmudgeonly exterior. Despite his sometimes gruff facade, Joe was deeply devoted to his family, adoring his son, nephew, and siblings. Joe was a loving and supportive friend to many, always willing to lend a hand or offer a listening ear whenever someone needed it.

To celebrate Joe's life and the joy he brought to those around him, a casual Cubs and Bears-themed Celebration of Life will be held on August 17th from 12-3 PM at the Blackhawk Athletic Club, 2023 Broadway, Rockford, IL 61104. The gathering will feature his favorite music, and attendees are encouraged to wear their favorite Cubs or Bears gear — or even a tie-dyed shirt, symbolizing Joe's free spirit and love for individuality.  Let's come together to share music, memories, stories, pictures, or anything that celebrates Joe's life, as we honor a man who brought so much laughter, love, and rock and roll into our lives.
