Joseph Dew
December 31, 1969 — January 24, 2024
Joseph Powell Dew, 80, of Rockford, passed away peacefully on January 24, 2024, surrounded by his family, with his wife and children holding his hands. He was born on April 5, 1943, in Wareham Massachusetts; the son of Joseph Sr. and Linabelle (Brigham) Dew. He graduated from high school in 1961 and after graduating joined the U.S. NAVY and served in Vietnam on the USS SAMUEL B. ROBERTS (DD-823) as part of the First Nuclear-Powered Task Group in history, TG 77.7 engaged the enemy at 0720H on 2 December 1965 in South Vietnam. He met his sweetheart Jo Renee Semenchuk 6 months prior to getting married on December 31, 1966, in Rockford, Illinois. He worked as a Silk Screener until he retired where he made anything from advertisement displays for companies like Amerock & Olympia Paint for hardware stores to doing event signs like the Walk-A-Thon in Rockford, along with flags and other banners for the Phantom Regiment, Drum and Bugle Corp. He was a very hardworking & loving husband and father. He loved his children, grandchildren and great grandchildren very very much. He loved his neighbors and would make sure to go out and talk if he saw them out in their yards. Many thanks to his neighbors Lori, Tom, Dave and Curt for always helping him out when he needed a hand as well as the ones that have moved away.
Survivors include his loving wife Jo Renee; two children son Jamie Dew and daughter Jill (Chris) Recla; four grandchildren Samantha (Joe) Kasper, Autumn (Kaydon) Battles, Karissa Recla and Holly Dew; and three great grandchildren Mila, Nelly and Aurora. All of which he loved and was proud of very much.
