Joseph Carl Beert, 70, passed away on Friday, September 23, 2022 after a long battle with cancer. He was born in Champaign, IL to Carl and Pearl (Thompson) Beert on August 2, 1952 and was raised in Rockford, IL where he graduated from West High School in 1971. He worked as CAD Designer following in his father’s footsteps and also as a CNC machinist/Tool Maker. Joe loved music and he taught himself to play many instruments. When he was 8 he wanted to be a drummer so mom gave him a padded dining room chair and drumsticks. He quickly pounded holes in the seat and moved on to guitar. He had a great voice and performed in several bands throughout Illinois playing guitar and bass. He enjoyed cooking and loved to share his recipes and food with others. He had a passion for knowledge and the “gift of gab” and could talk to anyone about anything and loved to make people smile. He is survived by his Son, Joseph T. Beert and Grand Daughter, Kylie Beert of New Market, AL; Mother, Pearl Beert; Sister, Melissa (David) Billingsley; Sister Patricia (Carl) Rinker; Brother Daniel Beert; Brother, Michael (Rachel) Beert; sister, Katherine (Jeff) Kusler, and several nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends that loved him very much. He is preceded in death by his father, Carl J. Beert and brother-in-law, David Billingsley. Per Joe’s wishes, there will be a private celebration of life in the spring of 2023 in Oquawka, IL. In Lieu of Flowers, a memorial may be given to The American Cancer Society. Stateline Cremations is assisting the family, 712 Windsor Rd., Loves Park, IL 61111.
