John F. Pfeifer, 74, of Beloit, WI passed away suddenly on November 9, 2025. He was born on February 18, 1951, in Austin, MN, the son of Jerome and Orva (Fagerness) Pfeifer. John graduated from Belvidere High School and was a survivor of the tornado of 1967 in Belvidere, IL. He briefly attended Northern Illinois University and took immense pride in serving his country in the Navy where he was stationed in Europe during the Vietnam War.
John loved all things historical and baffled everyone around him by his ability to read lengthy novels in a matter of hours (and retain the knowledge from them, no less!). He loved growing up in Minnesota and loved being a big brother. At family gatherings throughout his life, the childhood stories he and his siblings shared never failed to have everyone in stitches.
John was a fiercely loyal fan of Minnesota sports teams, especially the Vikings and Twins. He was tremendously proud of his daughters and loved spoiling his grandkids every Christmas Eve, which was his favorite day of the year. He was a lover of film, music, and a good joke. Making people laugh was a joy which never grew tiring for him. His sense of humor lives on in everyone who knew him, and his uncanny ability to name that band for every song on the radio is a skill that will be hard to beat.
Survivors include his children, Amanda (Jamie) Early, Kathleen Pfeifer, and Cassandra Pfeifer; his grandchildren Hayden and Shelby Early; his siblings, Luanne Pfeifer, Gary Pfeifer, Linda Franke, Steve (Marj) Ostgaard, and his best friend/brother-in-bond Ken Swanson; numerous nieces and nephews; several cousins; Aunt Sharon (Allen) McVey and Aunt Carol Fagerness. He is predeceased by his parents Jerome and Orva Pfeifer; stepmother Lois (Harmon) Pfeifer; aunts and uncles, Ardeth (Glen) Gilbertson, Merton (Beverly) and Stan Fagerness; his sister Cheryl Taylor, sister Joyce (Michael) Maske, and sister Suanne Pfeifer.
To honor John's memory, his daughters request that you seek out your nearest historical society and donate to help keep history alive. In lieu of services, John's daughters will be bringing him home to Austin, MN—a place that was near and dear to his heart all his life. John's daughters would also like to express gratitude towards the Beloit, WI first responders for their support and their kindness.
