John Giglio

December 31, 1969 — May 22, 2022

John Phillip Giglio passed away on Sunday, May 22, 2022 in his home, surrounded by his loving family.  John was born on January 6, 1937 to Joseph and Ruby Giglio.  He is survived by his ex-wife Judy and their daughters Jana Giglio Janes and Janae Giglio Burton, grandchildren Dustin Giglio, Tobias Burton, Nicole Burton, Heather Burton; grandchild Kylie Giglio and great-grandchild Theo (born the same day as Johnny’s death. After graduating Harlem High School John enlisted in the United States Marine Corps and became a member of the prestigious US Marine Corp Drum and Bugle Corps – Pacific.  He traveled the Pacific and performed for many heads of state.
John had his own accounting practice and was the owner of AIDS (Ambulatory Intercity Dispatch Service) Ambulance Company.  He served as an EMT and became one of the first Paramedics in Illinois.  One of his greatest joys was working in the ambulance at the Daytona 500 races in Florida.  John loved to golf, loved his music and his dogs.  He was a very frequent patron of Frank Calvanese’s “Little Italy”. John was blessed to be chosen for Harlem Veteran Project by Lexi Riley for the creation of a video about his life and military service.
Click here to watch the video .  John and Lexi continued to be good friends and Lexi was like a daughter to him.  He was so proud of her and her accomplishments. John was the second child of seven.  He was preceded in death by his father Joseph Giglio, mother Ruby Giglio and brother Joseph Giglio.  He is survived by his sister Pauline (Edward) Bruin, brother Thomas (Jean) Giglio and sisters Kathryn (Jerry) Pierson, Jeanie (Dennis) Aden, and Debra (Todd) Drake,  a host of nieces and nephews, great and great-great nieces and nephews. Many thanks to his special friends Randall Janes (son in law), Bonnie Albers, Dolly Cosbodillo, and Jennifer and Chris Walsh  for looking after him and keeping him company in his later years.  He was always surrounded by his dogs and loved them dearly. Thank you to his good friend, Dr. James Phoenix, for assisting him though-out his life and helping his family in his last days and after his passing. John’s celebration of life will be held at The Mansion, 2430 South Main Street, Rockford, Illinois on Saturday, October 22, 2022 from 1-3pm.  All friends and family are welcome.
