Joan Slack

November 26, 1931 — June 8, 2025

Joan Knight Slack passed away peacefully on Sunday afternoon, June 8, 2025, surrounded by her three children. Born to Elmer "Daddy" and Alice Knight. Joan was predeceased by her beloved husband of 58 years, Robert Lee Slack; her baby brother, Thom; and her parents. She is survived by her children Carrie (Jim) Doege, Kelly (Joni) Slack, and Craig Slack; her grandchildren Adam (Jen) Slack, Benjamin (Karrah) Slack, Salli (Brandon) Lamberth, Carter Slack, and Cooper Slack; and her 10 great- grandchildren Caia, Lewis, Lena, Zoey, Sullivan, Rudy, Declan, Jocelyn, Rory, and Drew.

Joan graduated from Bradley University, where she was a proud member of Gamma Phi Beta. She married her high school sweetheart, Bob, on June 15, 1953.

Her deep Christian faith shaped her life. A devoted member of Westminster Presbyterian Church of Rockford since 1960. Joan served as an Elder, Deacon, Stephen Minister, adult teacher, greeter, wedding coordinator, and more. She and Bob rarely missed a Sunday, always in the first 2 seats of the second pew.

Joan had a remarkable career with Doncaster Clothing, where she was a President's Club member and one of the nation's top sales producers for over 40 years. A former PE major, she taught yoga and aerobics at the YMCA well into her 80's and remained active in golf, tennis, and travel throughout her life. She was also a proud lifelong member of the P.E.O.

A Memorial Service will be held at 10:30 AM, Saturday, June 28, 2025, at Westminster Presbyterian Church, 2821 N. Bell School Rd., Rockford, IL 61107. A visitation will be from 9:30 AM until the time of the service. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Westminster Presbyterian Church in Joan's name.
